Session 27

screen.brussels passes the milestone of 100 production companies supported

For its second session of 2025, screen.brussels selected eight projects that are particularly important for the Brussels film and audiovisual industry. Thanks to an investment of €1 million, the expected return to the Brussels-Capital Region economy, in terms of salaries and company order books, amounts to €8.993 million, representing a return of €9 for every €1 invested. The selected projects include three feature films (live action) and two animated feature films, two television series and one documentary. Find the description of the projects below.

Brussels, resolutely the capital of cinema

Of the eight projects selected, seven are being carried out by production companies based in Brussels (and one in Wallonia), while nearly half (four out of nine) of the directors are from Brussels: Kita Bauchet, Michaël Roskam, Romain Renard and Mathieu Mortelmans. All the selected projects will be filmed in Brussels – or will be partially produced there in the case of animation. It is also worth noting that this 27th session of screen.brussels marks the milestone of 100 different production companies having benefited from the support of the Brussels-Capital Region's investment fund since its creation in 2016.

Women behind the camera

Nearly half of the people involved in the production of these projects (4/9) are women: Kita Bauchet (Bande d'hystériques), Géraldine Nakache (Si tu penses bien), Diane Clavier (Anna et les enfants) and Eva Husson (Faussaires).

Faussaires

During the installation of a major exhibition, the bust of Nefertiti is broken. But for Andrea, the Gorgon isn't just a forger: she's also her little sister, Alba, exiled in Rome and who she hasn't spoken to in years...

Bandes d'hystériques fiche film EN

Bandes d'hystériques

Mirroring our post #Me Too era, the film tells the little-known story of the women's emancipation movements of the 1970s in Belgium. Through the impertinent actions of Dolle Mina in Flanders, the support for the Marie Mineur workers in Wallonia and the new film by Chantal Akerman, a 25-year-old from Brussels who was to revolutionise the cinema, our feminine heritage is sketched out with humour and insolence. The images of these battles and the encounters with the women who led them shed light on the road we still have to travel to achieve full gender equality in law and in practice.
