#PROD  #DIVERSITY - NEW DAWN

New Dawn is a combined effort by (currently) 10 public film funds to support more diversity in the international film industry. New Dawn will operate as a production fund, by making additional funding available for film productions and by supporting film makers in setting up networks. Its aim is to change the funding system from within, starting with productions that are currently developing with help from the participating funds.

#FORUM #COPRODUCTION - FORUM ALENTOURS  

The 2023 edition of the Alentours Forum will take place from 27 to 29 June in Strasbourg. The Alentours Forum is the annual flagship event for cross-border film and audiovisual co-production. Producers looking for co-producers in the partner countries (Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Belgium) can apply with a project in development to be included in the bilingual Franco-German catalogue, which will bring together a selection of around 25 projects.

#PODCAST #SCRIPT #STREET ART - RTBF TARMAC

TARMAC is looking for an original, rhythmic and immersive project on the history of street art in Belgium. The aim is to introduce the public to the art of graffiti and street art by placing it in the context of the hip-hop cultural movement, in a fun and engaging way. In this podcast, a strong character will take the listener on a journey of discovery of this movement. Three projects will be pre-selected and will receive a development package. In a second phase, only one of the three projects will be selected for a full production of the series.

#PITCHING #PODCAST - BPF

Pitching your project and receive feedback from professionals in the sector, on 6 April (online) from 4 to 6 pm. After last year's undeniable success, the BPF (Brussels Podcast Festival) is relaunching the adventure by organising a meeting between the authors of tomorrow and Belgian, French and Swiss podcast production structures. The concept remains the same. Depending on the pitch and the editorial lines, the BPF links the authors with two production structures that seem to be on the same wavelength. Each meeting will take place on Amplo's Crewbooking platform and will last 10 minutes.

#PITCHING #FORUM - FEST-Pitching forum

In this edition, the Pitching Forum will take place from 20 to 24 June, in Espinho (Portugal). The expected categories are : FEATURE GEMS (Feature film projects), WORK IN PROGRESS (Feature film projects in post-production), MAKE IT SHORT (Short film projects at any stage of development) and a new category SERIES (Projets en série dans n'importe quelle phase de développement) is added. The selected finalists will have 5 minutes to pitch their project to international film industry decision makers: producers, investors, fund managers, sales, distributors and festival programmers; to win awards, receive feedback and participate in one-on-one meetings. They will also have access to a three-day training session led by world-renowned project development experts, who will guide them in preparing the perfect pitch.

#DISTRIBUTION #PROMOTION - TFL Audience Design Fund

The Fund will be assigned to 3 carefully selected projects that will receive a € 45,000 grant each, plus customised consultancies aimed at supporting films at distribution stage through the implementation of innovative audience engagement and outreach strategies. The consultancies go beyond the creative film marketing approach, using storytelling as a driving force to build communities, social and digital media outreach as well as off-line activities around the films. Sessions take place during the spring of 2023.

LIM - Less is More is the European feature film development programme for committed filmmakers in a changing world and launches its new 2023 Call for Projects to enhance creativity and to rethink how independent cinema is conceived in a time of deep ecological and political concern. LIM is welcoming writers & directors from (and/or living in) the European Union, Eurimages Countries and non-EU countries participating in the Creative Europe Programme, as well as the United Kingdom, applying with a fiction project at an early stage of development.

# 2 CALLS FOR PROJECTS - COMEDY & DOCUMENTARY

The Centre du Cinéma et de l'Audiovisuel, Orange Belgium, the SACD, the Scam and Screen Brussels are joining forces to encourage genre diversity in the belgian francophone cinema and are therefore addressing a wider and more diverse audience: two calls for projects, one in fiction and the other in documentary, are being launched in 2022. They include:

  • 4 writing grants of €12,500 for mainstream comedy feature film projects ;
  • 6 writing grants of €5,000 for feature-length documentary projects on "Les enjeux de demain".

Applicants must have written, co-written or directed at least one film that has been broadcast professionally or have graduated from an FWB film school.

#International Screen Institute Sustainability Management

This course will have a strong emphasis on green business and project management, however, will also look at social sustainability in terms of sustainable work models that promote productivity while respecting and promoting the wellbeing of the work force and collaborators and create and promote inclusivity for collaborators of all backgrounds. Sustainability Management will take participants through all aspects of running a company or project in a sustainable manner from energy supply, business travel to what to consider when buying cleaning materials. It also will look at new work and collaboration models based on the principles of fairness and safety at the workplace and as a European course will promote setting common European standards and certificates.

The Brussels Art Film Festival launches its call for projects for its next edition, which will take place from November 10 to 13, in Brussels. The documentaries must be about artistic creation through practices as varied as architecture, music, sculpture, painting or literature. The projects must have a link with Belgium (artist, filmmaker or Belgian production). After selection by a committee of experts, the selected films will be eligible for 3 prizes of a total value of 4.500€.

#WB images animated shorts

Wallonie Bruxelles Images and the Centre du Cinéma publish three compilations of short films produced in Wallonia and Brussels each year. These compilations are intended only for international sellers, broadcasters and festivals. The call is addressed to "majority" French-speaking Belgian animated shorts completed between May 2021 and today.

A jury of professionals will view all these films to determine which ones will be included in this compilation.

The Venice Production Bridge launches the call for projects for the eighth edition of the Venice Gap-Financing Market, which will take place from September 3 to 5, 2021, during the 78th Venice International Film Festival (September 1 to 11, 2021). #Horizon Europe: Increase the potential of the international competitiveness of the European filmmaking industry

Horizon Europe, the European Union's research and innovation program, has published a call for research projects aimed at increasing the competitiveness of the film industry. Projects must address at least two of the following research deliverables: new knowledge on the needs and developments of the European film industry, including its different sub-sectors of pre-production, production, post-production and distribution. Provide innovative scenarios and policy tools, including digital, for the economic recovery of the sub-sectors affected by the economic recession and the COVID-19 crisis, as well as ways to prevent unemployment in the sector. Or provide evidence of user/viewer preferences for film, as well as limitations in identifying their preferences, in order to expand and diversify audiences.

The research will examine the state of the art of the European film industry, in order to analyze limitations, including institutional frameworks that prevent integration and cause fragmentation.  Proposals should identify and pilot innovative, scalable and sustainable business models that will enable creators to better utilize digital and other technologies and further expand their audiences.  Proposals should cover the business of filmmaking, as well as the broad field of filmmaking, including television, documentaries, animation, science films, etc.

#Horizon Europe: Games and culture shaping our society

Horizon Europe, the European Union's research and innovation program, is opening a call for research projects on the impact of video games in our society. Projects must contribute to at least two of the following research outcomes: Evidence of the impact of games on European society, including their cultural value and risks. Evidence of the innovative potential of online gaming. New insights into the role of the games industry and non-commercial creative practices in the EU for the benefit of society. Or proposals to improve games in terms of their positive impact on education, skills, responsible business models, employment opportunities, social cohesion and creativity.

#Creative Europe Media : Development of video games and immersive content

This new call not only supports the development of video games but also immersive content, regardless of the platform or distribution method, which is intended for commercial exploitation and which has an interactive and narrative component. MEDIA's financial contribution is limited to 50% of the eligible costs and capped at €150,000.

#John Landis Masterclass & Il Cinema Ritrovato Film Festival

The Il Cinema Ritrovato festival is organizing its 36th edition this year. A true cinematographic paradise and one of the most prestigious festivals in the world, specialized in classic and restored cinema. This year the festival is organizing a Masterclass with John Landis, director, screenwriter and film producer. He is best known for directing Michael Jackson's music videos: "Thriller" and "Black or White", which popularized the use of digital morphing and raised the standard of special effects in music videos.

The IFA masterclass consists of 20 participants. The IFA will select the 20 most creative talents. During this masterclass, John Landis will guide you through the filmmaking process; from script to final cut.

#Forum Alentours 2022

This year, the Forum Alentours will once more offer two and a half days of pitching sessions, One on One meetings, panel discussions and workshops.

Producers looking for co-production partners in border countries can submit a project under development before April 8, 2022. 25 projects in French or German language seeking co-producers in partner countries will be selected and published in the bilingual (FR/DE) catalog of the Forum. Project leads will also have the opportunity to pitch their project in English on June 29th in Strasbourg before an audience of producers and other potential financial partners.

#TV WRITERS: European Showrunner programme

With the "European Showrunner Programme", the ifs internationale filmschule köln launches a unique initiative for showrunners in Europe. It is a (part-time) training and mentoring program for experienced series writers and a series of events to define and establish the role of showrunner in Europe. The training starts in June. The first industry event will take place on March 23 at the Series Mania Forum in Lille. The partners are the European Union's Creative Europe MEDIA program, Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, Netflix and Series Mania.

#Brussels podcast Festival

RTBF launches a call for projects in collaboration with the Brussels Podcast Festival! This call for projects is aimed at young creators who wish to tell original, sound documentary stories in podcast applications, while addressing the RTBF's Tipik audience (25-39 years old). The focus will be on the originality of the stories chosen, the respect of their treatment, as well as the respect of the channel's editorial line. The theme will be "Crimes of the past". The series aims to differentiate itself from True Crime documentaries by using a modern language and a light universe while paying particular attention to the choice of the character and the originality of the narrative. Among the applications received, only 1 will be selected and will receive between 15.000 and 25.000€ of development aid.

#EAVE PUNTES-Europe / Latin America Co-Production Workshop 2022

The call for applications for EAVE PUENTES, the most relevant and successful training program for developing Europe-Latin America co-production, is now open. The registration period for the 13th edition of the NUMIX PRIZES is open until February 17, 2022. The categories open to international entries for 2022 are: CAPSULE AND WEBSERIES, BALADO, XR and IN SITU. 

Since 2010, the NUMIX PRIZES have been rewarding excellence in digital content from Quebec. In 2021, the NUMIX PRIZES opened up to international competition. #A booster program for female scriptwriters over 40

The Writers Lab is now launched in Europe with a script development program for women (cis, trans, nonbinary) over 40. A development program that screen brussels proudly supports. Guests and mentors include Susanne Bier, Christina Ham, Jantje Friese, Ameenah Ayub Allen, Nadine Labaki, Jasmila Žbanić and Isabel Coixet. Screenwriters selected by the Lab will work one-on-one and in groups with film industry leaders to develop their scripts and craft. They will also develop tools and strategies for success. 

The Writers Lab is open to feature film and pilot screenplay submissions of all genres. Short films and documentaries will not be accepted. The Flemish Audiovisual Fund and DGP Media are joining forces and providing funds for bold, innovative fiction projects in the field of web series. This is a one-time open call made possible thanks to the VAF's relaunch funds allocated by the Flemish Government for 2022. DPG Media and the VAF will work with creators to find an original pitch for a fiction project destined for vtmGO that meets the points below. #Less is More call for Development Angels 


Less is More call for Development Angels is now open for the 2022 edition and is aimed at film professionals. Less is More is an initiative that supports writer-directors with projects from 1st to 3rd feature films in early development. #Global Pitch 2022 - Women's Voices

Sunny Side of the Doc is organizing the Global Pitch to be held on February 22 and 23, 2022. The goal is to facilitate international co-productions and funding for projects featuring women's voices. Sunny Side of the Doc is looking for important, powerful and engaging stories with a female perspective as well as genuine support for women filmmakers from underrepresented communities. 

The call for projects is open to all talents, from all regions of the world. All formats are accepted, as well as all stages of project development, provided that they can show that they have obtained at least 10% of the production budget. Selected projects will be offered access to targeted international decision-makers, meetings to advance your project, visibility of your project within the international documentary community and follow-up until its release. The winner of the best pitch will receive a prize of 3000€ and two free accreditations

The Brussels-Capital Region launches a new call for projects to support VSE and SME in their digitisation efforts on the one hand, and to ensure the digital transition of the Brussels economy by supporting the development of digital projects with a positive social and environmental impact on the other hand. #TVSERIES: Torino Film Lab - Series Lab 2021

SeriesLab focuses on fiction TV series projects at an early development stage and is addressed to professional European* scriptwriters, directors and producers. The programme is structured around two residential workshops in June and November 2021 and one online workshop in September 2021. The aim is to draft the treatment of the pilot and the concept presentation (mini-bible) by the end of the programme.

#MUSICVIDEOS - Call for project by the Centre du Cinéma et de l'Audiovisuel - Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles

The project call is open to any director/artist, whether or not they have previously directed music videos, films, or other audiovisual content. The music video must be designed to accompany a clearly identified piece of music, which the musician or group has a topicality (e.g. album release) and is supported by a professional structure (label, booking agencies, manager, etc.). The clip can be in a wide variety of formats: live-action, animation, documentary, fictional or experimental, or even multidisciplinary. The project must be designed to circulate on dedicated platforms for clip format (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.) but also to be teased via social networks- in the broadest sense. The aid, of a maximum amount of 20,000 euros, must be spent for the benefit of individuals or legal entities resident in Belgium for tax purposes.

The form has to be submitted in French but the music video can be of any language.

#FEATURE FILM: FIRST CUT LAB Belgium

First Cut Lab Belgium is a consultancy program designed for feature films in editing phase from Belgium – at least one from Flanders & at least one from Wallonie-Bruxelles. The program is made in collaboration and with the final support of the Vlaams Audiovisueel Fonds and the Centre du cinema of the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles. The selected teams (director/producer/editor) are offered a creative framework, both benevolent & challenging, where to open up new perspectives and to explore the whole artistic potential of their films. They screen their rough cut in a private session, and receive expert feedbacks from three international film industry advisors, as well as tailor-made advice from a consultant editor.

The program will take place online, and each film will be workshopped within the period from 15. January 2021 to 30. June 2021. Each film is accompanied by First Cut Lab for a period of roughly 6 weeks, even though the core of the Lab takes place over two consecutive days.
