18-year old Lola, with her bleached blond hair, is tearing along the streets of Brussels on a skateboard, on a sun-drenched summer’s day. She lives in a hostel with Samir, her only friend. Impetuous and lonely, Lola is struggling to obtain her Veterinary Assistant degree. When she loses her mother, Catherine, whom she had secretly been visiting, her father Philippe deliberately makes her miss the funeral. Two years previously, he had kicked her out of the family home when she was still known as Lionel. Furious with her father, Lola steals her mother’s ashes. However, she did not count on the fact that Philippe is determined to fulfil Catherine’s final wishes: to have her ashes scattered on the North Sea coast, in the dunes near her childhood home. Lola is determined to accompany him and in the end, they take this bizarre journey together. On the roads of Belgium, they become reacquainted and realise this trip is turning out differently than they had thought.
