Marjolijn Prins

Description

Marjolijn Prins (1987, The Netherlands) is a Brussels based documentary filmmaker with a background in arts. During her fine arts studies, Marjolijn researched the possibility to direct her life as a fiction film. She tried to travel with a camel from France to the Netherlands, but not a single step of the journey went according to the script. When the beauty of failure and the unexpected was embraced, her love for documentary was born.

In 2012 Marjolijn moved to Belgium to study documentary directing. She graduated in 2016 Cum Laude for her masters’ degree at the Ritcs in Brussels. Her graduation film MUM, ME AND THE HOUSE (Marjolijn Prins, 2016) screened at multiple international film festivals and won several awards a.o. the jury award at the Oscar qualifying London International Documentary Festival.

Marjolijns’ documentaries focuss often on discovering the world through the eyes of kids. Children are in her opinion the ideal audience, as they are still very curious and not yet shaped by cultural heritage and perceptions of good taste. This resulted in two seasons of the web series HAIRY HEROES (Marjolijn Prins & Zaide Bill, 2020/2021) for the Brussels based broadcaster BRUZZ. In 2022 she directed with a group of young refugees the short documentary PAPER BORDERS (Marjolijn Prins, 2022).
