Stranger Scripts: call for writing projects for genre films

Attention film-makers and scriptwriters! This year, 5 writing grants of €15,000 are being offered to authors to write projects for genre films. Submit your application by 14 September 2025!

Orange Belgium, the Centre du Cinéma et de l'Audiovisuel (CCA) and the SACD, in partnership with screen.brussels, are renewing their partnership to encourage the diversity of genres in French-speaking Belgian cinema and thereby reach out to a wider and more diverse audience.

After comedy in 2024, the 2025 call for projects is aimed at genre films: fantasy, science fiction, futurology, horror, thrillers.

Please note that projects must be submitted in French.

 

 

Type of project sought

  • This call is for feature-length genre film projects - live-action or animated : fantasy, science fiction, futurology, horror, thriller,.
  • The genre of the project must be explicitly mentioned
  • Comedy projects are not admitted as they were the subject of a specific call for projects in 2024
  • Adaptation projects are admitted as long as they concern works from the Belgian literary repertoire (literature, children's literature, comics, etc.) and that the author(s) have the adaptation rights The jury will pay particular attention to the respect and respect for the style of the film and to the quality of the adaptation. ice.s have the adaptation rights
  • The jury will pay particular attention to respect for and revisiting of the genre, the originality of the project and the uniqueness of the characters and situations
  • Projects do not have to have producers
  • Only one project per person is accepted
  • Projects may not have received writing assistance from the Centre du cinéma
  • Projects that have already been submitted and rejected under the same call for projects in previous years will not be accepted

 

Candidate profile

Funding is reserved for authors who

  • who have written, co-written or directed at least one short or long fictional work (film, series, web series) broadcast in a professional context (TV, cinema, festival, cable broadcasters, etc.);
  • or, failing that, who have a degree in directing from an FWB film school and have made an end-of-studies film in this capacity;
  • or, failing that, have completed training in screenwriting at an FWB college;
  • The author must be Belgian or a national of a Member State of the European Economic Area. Nationals of a State that is not a member of the European Economic Area and stateless persons who are resident in Belgium may be treated in the same way as nationals of a Member State of the European Economic Area;
  • Aid may only be paid to an author whose main residence is in the French-speaking region of Belgium or the bilingual region of Brussels-Capital.

 

How to apply?

Please note that applications will be processed anonymously. Therefore, please ensure that you :

  • Send your CV/filmography in a separate document;
  • Do not mention your name or previous films in the presentation of the project for which you are applying for support;
  • Give the application file the title of your project.

As applications are anonymous, participants must provide two different documents and comply with the following procedures:

Document 1

This document (PDF) of maximum 5 pages must include :

  • A short summary (5/10 lines)
  • A synopsis
  • A note of intent
  • An indication of the type of project
  • (A cover page may be added if desired. It will not be counted as part of the 5 pages)

This document should be labelled as follows: Projecttitle_Orange2025

Please note that no indication of your surname, first name or gender may be included in this file, otherwise your application will be inadmissible.

Document 2

This document (PDF) must include :

  • Your CV and filmography
  • Your residence
  • Your bank details

This document should be labelled as follows: CV_Lastname_Firstname_ProjectTitle_Orange2025

Document 1 will be the basis on which the selection will be made by the jury.

Document 2 will be used to check the eligibility of your application in terms of your experience and residency.

 

Calendar

The call for entries is open until 14 September 2025 (at 23:59), after which the registration form will be deactivated.

Here is the summary timetable for the forthcoming deliberation stages and announcement of the results:

  • Closing of the call for projects: 14 September 2025
  • Beginning of October: Eligible applications sent to the members of the jury after their eligibility has been checked. Start of the jury's reading phase.
  • Early November: Final selection meeting with the jury.
  • Mid-November: Announcement of results to participants.
