2025 Awards: Genre Film Writing Support
SACD, Orange Belgium and Be.tv, together with the Centre du Cinéma et de l’Audiovisuel and screen.brussels, today announce the projects selected for the Genre Film Writing Support scheme and extend their warmest congratulations to all applicants for the richness and quality of their proposals.
A renewed commitment to creation
In 2025, SACD, the Centre du Cinéma et de l’Audiovisuel (CCA), Orange Belgium, Be.tv and screen.brussels renewed their partnership, thereby continuing their shared commitment to supporting authors, fostering diversity of genres within French-speaking Belgian cinema, and broadening its audience to increasingly varied publics.
Launched in 2019, this initiative aims to encourage the development of ambitious and distinctive projects through calls for proposals focusing on:
- films written by women;
- second feature films;
- films intended for family audiences;
- author-driven perspectives on genre cinema;
- comedy films.
A call for projects dedicated to genre cinema
This year’s call for projects highlighted genre cinema, and more specifically feature-length film projects in science fiction, fantasy and speculative fiction, horror, crime and thriller.
Another major development: whereas four grants were awarded in 2024, a fifth grant was added in 2025. A total budget of €75,000 was thus allocated to support five feature film projects, each receiving a €15,000 grant to develop their project.
The selction
With 222 projects submitted, this edition sets a record for participation, reflecting the vitality of Belgian creation and the strong interest in the genre highlighted this year.
The 2025 jury
- Ève Commenge, Producer at Anonymes Films
- Maïa Descamps, Screenwriter and Director, Vice-President of the Belgian SACD Committee
- Dylan Klass, Author and Producer
- Sarah Schenkel, Screenwriter and Director
In order to process the considerable number of submissions under optimal conditions, the 2025 jury was reinforced with four additional members for the pre-selection phase:
- Julie Esparbes, Producer at Helicotronc
- Virginie Gourmel, Director, Cinematographer and Director of Photography
- Grégory Lecocq, Screenwriter and Director
- Olivier Tollet, Director, Screenwriter, Editor and Copywriter at Be.tv
The selection was based on respect for and reinterpretation of the chosen genre, originality, feasibility of the projects, their relevance to the intended audiences, and the filmmakers’ artistic intentions.
The projects, submitted anonymously, were assessed with rigour and goodwill in the presence of representatives of the partner organisations. We thank the jury members for the time devoted to reviewing the submissions and for the quality of their critical perspective.
2025 awards
It is with great pleasure that we announce the projects selected for the 2025 call for projects:
- Code fantôme, by Charlotte Joulia
- Credo, by Nicolas Moulin
- Dayf, by Mustapha Abatane
- Ndoki, by Django Schrevens Da Silva
- Rage, by Lionel Delhaye
We extend our warmest congratulations to the five selected authors for their promising projects and wish them every success as they continue their writing work.
Our sincere congratulations also go to all applicants who responded to the call for projects, for the quality of their proposals and the enthusiasm demonstrated, which already encourages us to look ahead to future editions.
Looking ahead to future editions
With a view to diversifying and promoting different forms of writing, future calls for projects under the Writing Support scheme will alternate between genre films and comedy films. The forthcoming edition will be firmly focused on supporting comedy projects.
