The famous hotel, listed since 2002, has been selected with 11 other locations for the Best Location Award by the European Film Commissions Network . The winner will be determined by the votes of the public, open until 30 November.
Opened in 1895 in a former bank, the Metropole is the last hotel dating from the 19th century still in activity in Brussels. It was one of the first luxury hotels, but also the first in Brussels to be equipped with electricity and central heating. Today, it consists of 262 rooms and 22 suites, as well as several meeting rooms, a bar and a restaurant.
The interior and exterior of the building are protected, and the decoration combining Corinthian columns, gilding and luxurious furniture was preserved during a renovation in 2014. Art Nouveau, Art Deco and neo-Renaissance cohabit and give an impression of turn-of-the-century luxury. It is therefore not surprising that this emblematic place of the capital regularly hosts film shoots.
Regarding feature films alone, more than 20 projects have been shot in the last ten years, among which Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt's "Odette Toulemonde" (2006) with Catherine Frot, "Möbius" (2012) by Eric Rochant with Jean Dujardin, and "The Happy Prince" (2018) by and with Rupert Everett.
EUFNC Best Location Award
For the second year in a row, the European Film Commissions Network (EUFCN) will award the prize for the best European location for the film and television industry. Each member Film Commission was able, during a first phase, to apply for a site that hosted a shoot in 2017. A selection of 12 venues is proposed to the public vote until 30 November 2018.
