The park was established in 1911 under the name of Anderlecht Park. It was only after the death of Queen Astrid in 1935 that the park became known as "Astrid Park" in honor of her. The landscaping project for Astrid Park is the work of landscape architect Jules Buyssens who designed it in 1926.
The park is managed by the municipality of Anderlecht.
