Daniel Demoustier

Description

Daniel Demoustier is a Belgian filmmaker / producer.

He studied political and social sciences at Leuven University where he also received camera and edit training at the university’s audiovisual center. He started free lancing for Belgian TV and worked on different documentaries in Bosnia, Lebanon, Sri Lanka and Iraq.

Later he moved to the BBC and ITV and continued to film conflicts and natural disasters in Afghanistan, Albania, Darfur, DRC, Egypt, El Salvador, Gaza, Haiti, Iraq, Kenya, Kosovo, Lebanon, Liberia, Libya, Macedonia, Mali, South Africa, Syria, Turkey, Yemen, Ukraine and Nagorno Karabakh. At the same time he worked on contemporary dance projects for Rosas (Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker) and Ultima Vez (Wim Vandekeybus). Many of his (war) pictures were used for different art projects and installations for which he collaborated with Ryoichi Kurokawa (Ground), Muziektheater Transparent (Songs of War) and Stefaan Decostere (Warum 2.0) for the Artefact Festival in Leuven and the International Film Festival in Rotterdam.

In 2019 he was invited by Milo Rau, artistic director of NTGent, to work on the “Orestes in Mosul “ production in Iraq and in 2021 he was the DOP and editor  for “Yellow” by Luk Perceval. He also directed the documentary film “Orestes in Mosul – The Making Of” that premiered on Het Nederlands Theater festival and was shown in Sphinx Cinema in Gent.

In 2022 he worked as line producer on “The Claus Family 3” for Netflix and as a unit production manager for “The Last Front” directed by Julien Kerknawi.
