The 8 projects selected for the final 2025 session of screen.brussels
For its final session of 2025, screen.brussels has selected 8 projects for a total investment of €960,000. By investing in the creation of these audiovisual works, over €7,830,000 will be reinjected into the film and audiovisual economy of the Brussels-Capital Region — a return of €8.6 for every €1 invested. Among the selected projects are 3 series, 2 feature films, 2 animation projects, and 1 documentary, detailed below.
6 audiovisual projects, including 2 in animation
Of the 8 projects, 6 are intended primarily for television broadcast — catering to all audiences and tastes. These include 3 TV series: Mektoub Thérapie, Haemers and Les Beaux Malaises (respectively a comedy, a thriller, and a short-format series). They are followed by an animated series for very young viewers, Nino Dino, and Le Trésor, a one-off special from the Panique au village! universe. Finally, there is a documentary series offering an immersive look into the judicial world: Justice, histoires de vie.
2 feature films that will take Brussels on a journey
The 2 selected feature films will help place Brussels on the map of European — and international — cinema: Coward, the latest film by Lukas Dhont (Girl, Close), who ventures into historical cinema, and Lords of War by Andrew Niccol, a major international production and sequel to a cult classic. These two projects highlight the strong structure of our regional audiovisual industry, capable of supporting majority Belgian co-productions while also hosting large-scale international ones — thanks to the combination of Belgian, regional, cultural, and tax-shelter financing mechanisms.
United for European cinema
This selection embodies the commitment launched by screen.brussels — “united for European cinema.” It once again demonstrates that investing in audiovisual and film content is a strategic choice: one that supports high cultural value creation, the European economy and employment, as well as the European values of democracy, justice, and human rights.
Two feature films
Coward
1916. During the First World War, the soldiers try to keep up their morale behind the trenches. Stirred by wartime rhetoric, each of them seeks their own path.
Lords of War
A few days after September 11, Yuri Orlov’s illegitimate son, Anton, takes up the family torch. But where his father only sold weapons, he also sells mercenaries. From Iraq to Sudan, father and son become ruthless rivals, leading to a final showdown in which Yuri is forced to take up arms against his own son.
Three Tv series
Haemers
The trial of Patrick Haemers, “public enemy no. 1,” is adjourned almost as soon as it begins. But for Liliane, his mother, the real battle is no longer fought in court. Her only fight now is to save Kevin, her grandson, from the criminal legacy. In the confined space of the visiting room, Liliane confronts Patrick. Torn between her love for her son and her duty to the next generation, she engages in a deeply personal struggle. How far will she go to break the chain of fate?
Les beaux malaises
Awkward moments don’t vanish with fame — and Kody knows that all too well! With a tone that’s both realistic and absurd, Les Beaux Malaises portrays the “real fake” life of the Belgian comedian, showcasing his hectic family and social life. The series is a comedy that loves to explore the limits of humor in 2025, revealing a somewhat lost Kody struggling with writer’s block for his new show...
Mektoub Thérapie
Ziad Alaoui is the youngest member of a Muslim family ruled by Nora, a matriarch with a rather… colorful personality. An awkward teenager, uncomfortable in his own skin and an easy target at secondary school, he hides his homosexuality beneath his obesity and within the streets of Brussels… but that was before he discovered he had a brain tumor!
Two animation projects
Le trésor
Nino Dino
Nino Dino is an adorable little dinosaur who embodies the exuberance of childhood! As a representative of children his age, he explores the world with boundless energy and endless curiosity, often finding himself at odds with the rules of everyday life. Even though he believes he’s super strong, he’s still very small and wouldn’t get far without his friends Cléa, Max, Alfred, and Daisy, with whom he shares exciting adventures where learning and fun come together. When the whole gang is together, adventure awaits just around the first rock!
One documentary
Justice, histoires de vie
From minor offences to serious crimes, Belgian courts handle around 400,000 cases each year. Behind each of them are men and women who find themselves thrust into the cold and complex world of justice. Justice, Life Stories follows those for whom justice is not a news topic but an intimate — and often brutal — reality that has imposed itself on their lives. Over the course of four episodes, Justice, Life Stories follows the litigants throughout their cases, alongside those on whom their fate sometimes depends: a criminal lawyer, a youth judge, a justice of the peace, a forensic doctor, a social worker, and a field police officer.
