Synopsis
Engel' ('Angel') is inspired by the novel 'Monoloog' ('Monologue') about someone who talks to themselves from famous Flemish author Dimitri Verhulst, winner of numerous prizes. After having read this book, Koen Mortier, the director of 'Ex Drummer' and '22 Mei' ('22 May'), immediately saw the possibility of making a film based on this story that many Belgians followed very closely.
It is a fictional story about the death of famous Belgian cyclist Frank Vandenbroucke. He was praised for his incredible talent, but was then knocked off his pedestal after having been caught taking drugs like morphine, EPO and others.
