This film tells the story of Brussels through a journey across streets, avenues, squares and alleyways, across the urban landscape …
By making the streets its hero, it lets us encounter those who walk them, work there, pass by, saunter along, or use them for party and protest.
By immersing itself in certain neighbourhoods of Brussels, and with the help of well-informed passers-by, the film uncovers the origins and pasts of these streets, questions their permutations, destructions and ongoing evolutions, and imagines their futures.
A street isn’t just a public passageway we use to get from point to point. It harbours political, economic, urban, societal, cultural, poetic and even humoristic interests. Questioning these interests uncovers at what cost Brussels changes, and how its citizens reclaim their urban spaces today. Because when a street is alive, the city expands.
