Meeting on genre films at the BRIFF

Event poster

Belgian cinema goes genre!

Before the launch of the new grants for writing genre films, the SACD, Orange Belgium, the CCA and screen.brussels are organising a meeting as part of the BRIFF. Discussions, perspectives and feedback on genre films: a key opportunity to question practices and identify the sector's needs. It's a time for reflection and dialogue, and why not a chance to get involved in your own projects?

After comedy grants, it's time for genre film grants

Following the success of the comedy writing grants in 2024, Orange Belgium, the Centre du Cinéma et de l'Audiovisuel (CCA) and the SACD, in partnership with screen.brussels, are renewing their partnership to encourage diversity of genres in French-speaking Belgian cinema, thereby reaching out to an even wider and more diverse audience. In 2025, 5 writing grants of €15,000 will be awarded to projects, but this time... genre films! Fantastic, science fiction, futuristic, horror, thrillers... no genre is excluded!

And to take this support a step further, a meeting is being organised by all the partners ahead of the launch of the call for projects: a time for information, discussion and inspiration.

The meeting

To mark BRIFF and the launch of the call for projects, the partners in the operation are inviting professionals from the sector to attend a meeting to discuss the place of genre films in Belgian cinematography, the opportunities and challenges associated with these repertoires, and the needs of the sector.

We will also have the opportunity with the ASA to clarify the definitions of genre films in script terms.

This meeting will be attended by a rich and ambitious panel comprising :

Michiel Blanchart, director of La nuit se traine
Antoine Bours, scriptwriter, director and member of the ASA
Jeanne Brunfaut, director of the Centre du Cinéma et de l'Audiovisuel
Clotilde Colson, scriptwriter and director
Alix de Montblanc, co-production manager, Orange/Be TV
Noël Magis, director of screen.brussels
Jean-Yves Roubin, producer at Frakas Productions
