The first programme to support women screenwriters over 40 is up-and-running
Among the 17 participants in this session of The Writers Lab Europe is Brussels-based director and screenwriter Virginie Gourmel
The Writers Lab is now underway (since the beginning of April) in Europe with a script development programme for women (cis, trans, non-binary) over 40. A development programme that screen.brussels proudly supports. Guests and mentors include Marie Østerbye (Rita), Sisse Graum Jørgensen & Sidsel Hybschmann (The Hunt, Another Round), Soudade Kaadan (The Day I Lost My Shadow), Sarah Kendall (Frayed) and Alli Haapasalo, whose film Girl Picture recently won acclaim at Sundance, as well as Susanne Bier (The Night Manager), Zackary Drucker (Transparent), Christine Ham (Them) and Nadine Labaki (Capernaum).
The screenwriters selected by the Lab work one-on-one and in groups with leaders in the film industry to develop their scripts and their craft. They will also develop tools and strategies for success. The programme continues for another six months, ending in September 2022.
